Drawn to the Masters: A Reinterpretation in Pen and Ink (JAN 2023)

A TWO-DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP
January 15 & 22, 2023
Time: 11:30am - 5:30pm EST
Instructor: Luis Colan

In this workshop, artists will use the work of the Masters as inspiration and starting point for a reinterpretation – not merely mimicking, but creating a new composition that reflects their own artistic vision in pen and ink. Traditionally, artists have looked to the Old Masters for inspiration and guidance. As a young artist in high school, instructor Luis Colan began a sketchbook dedicated to graphite copies of artists like Michelangelo, Raphael, and Rubens. His intent was never to be equal to them but rather to gather their knowledge. He hoped to unlock the secrets that would make him a better artist. Years later, Colan continues to look at the Old Masters with admiration and awe, using pen and ink in the search for clues left behind in their work. In this workshop, Colan will lead artists down the same path he himself followed many times.

This course is for anyone who is interested in learning to develop their drawing skills using pen and ink via landscape imagery.
